November 2007 here I purchased an amazing CRM program from www.Salesforce.com. There's a lot of amazing features on there. However, it's so difficult to understand & effectively use on a daily basis....they've even made a "For Dummies" to fully conceptualize it. I've been to their Help & Training Section...however that's maze to sort through as well. Finally, 2 weeks ago I had to hire a VA that knew a great deal about Salesforce.com and has been using it for a few years....however the intial stages of setting up the system with 3300+ personal contacts, not to mention the 30k invites I'm progressing upon for LinkedIn.com....PLUS I'm trying to add in PRM into this as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as the most effective & fastest way's to go about doing this. Keep in mind....After 10 years of doing business I had a revelation when I finally heard of "CRM" this past November. Thank You in advance for your help in this matter. Kent Levi Jacobsen

Hi Kent,
Thanks for posting the very first comment on the Blog! If you are implementing custom modules to Salesforce.com (SFDC) like Partner Relationship Management (PRM), then you should get assistance form a SFDC consulting partner who has experience dealing with the sales issues you are trying to address with CRM. PRM for example is still relatively new, and its improtant to know the capabilities and limitations prior to rolling it out. Remember that it is critical to get a few of your top salespeople involved in the initial configuration and rollout to create some peer advocacy and buy-in. You can also leverage the Salesforce.com community forums and Blogs to ask for help - the user community is strong and very willing to share ideas and experiences. Go to http://success.salesforce.com/ to check it out. If you want to learn more about how a consulting partner can help, see the HarvestGold web site at www.harvest-gold.com, or you can contact me directly via email.

There are great issues which concerns staff trainings when you try to start using new information system like ERP in your business. I think it is true for some CRMs too. What you think about self-trained systems (CRM, ERP etc)?

For plain vanilla implementations where the users are computer and CRM literate, some companies might get by with self-training. However if there are customizations, new business processes, or users who need some extra hand-holding, we have found that customized training with the specific business processes in mind is better delivered by a 3rd party. What have you found?

I study prospects of self-trained systems viceversa interactive staff trainings which may be provided by software producer at a stage of deployment and support of CRM or ERP-class products.

Thank You again in advance HG for you help in this matter!

I know I definitely need my hand-held all the time...otherwise I'd be lost. I'm exaclty like a 4 year old. Not in the sense that I'm not competent....just that I like to have a lot of people around me all the time that are A LOT better than myself in specific ares. This way I never overlook myself.

Warmest Regards,
